Hālau

The hālau, hula schools, teach more than dance. At the same time they help to preserve the language,and some of the myths and customs of the past. Their impact is significant because of the large number of people who are involved as teachers, students and audiences. In some hālau where the kumu hula are particularly strict with their discipline, the impact on the students is profound and life long.
